The nation's oldest continuously operating public art museum features American and European fine and decorative arts, 20th-century paintings, sculptures, costumes and textiles, and contemporary works. Through April 29: "Gaughin's 'Nirvana': Painters at Le Pouldu, 1889-1890" and "Incomplete Open Cubes/MATRIX 143,' minimal and conceptual works by Sol LeWitt. Through May 24: "Freeness!," works by black artists from the Reconstruction through the Harlem Renaissance (1865-1929). Through Sept. 9: "The Forbidden Stitch: Chinese Embroidery." Through Oct. 7: "Snap! Photography from the Collections."
