** DANGEROUS HOUSE GROOVES
(SFP)
Not continuously mixed or otherwise
programmed to a DJ style, this nine-track compilation merits attention only
because it represents the giddy, electronic-funk version of house music
indigenous to Miami. The flavor here is a slap-happy drollery supported by the
loose swerve of a south-of-the-border beat. In jams like S n S's "Get Up and Go
to Work," that beat takes the shape of an awfully funky samba, but more often
-- in cute dips like Chicco Secci's "Get Up," Buxxboyzz' "Pump!", and Ambition
featuring Chynna's "I Want It" -- the rhythm assumes an ironic, smiling veneer,
trashy as all Miami dance music has been since Debbie Deb, Company B, and
Newcleus ruled the '80s. Echoes of Junior Vasquez's "Get Your Hands Off My Man"
relate Circuit Boy's "Come and Get It (Tina Alan Diva Mix)" to New York's much
darker shade of house trash.
