RUGRATS IN PARIS
Who let the babies out?
Nina Willdorf
In this second full-length flick based on Nickelodeon's animated TV show, the
madcap adventures of the diaper-clad droolers move to Paris. When Tommy's
electrical whiz of a dad is summoned to France's new theme park,
EuroReptarland, to fix his supersized monster creation, the whole gang comes
along to wreak havoc. Chuckie decides that Paris is the perfect place to snag
himself a replacement for his late mom, but he probably didn't have in mind the
head of the theme park, the evil temptress Coco LaBouche (voice of Susan
Sarandon), who tries to seduce and marry Chuckie's dad so she can prove she's
not a shrew and get promoted. But thanks to the tykes' insight (isn't it always
the kids who see these things?), Coco gets the muzzle and daddy marries her
assistant, the sweet Kira, who has a rugrat of her own, Kimi.
With a fast-paced plot, a fair number of giggle-worthy puns, and a score
including the rousing "Who Let the Dogs Out," this effort from Stig Bergqvist
and Paul Demeyer is tolerable for indulging adults -- and likely heaven for
their own droolers.
