Out-takes

by Carolyn Given

On June 24, city council will debate its evaluation of City Manager Hoover. Discussion will focus on the manager's lagging response to certain city issues. A look at some recent council orders might explain why.

(Orders were adopted unless otherwise noted.)

  • Request Administration to ask OrNda to back off on their pushy public relations program. (denied by roll call vote, 7-4)

  • Request city manager send a message to the Police Department to get in the holiday spirit and try to accommodate people rather than chasing them out of the city.

  • Request city manager report where tickets were given, whether tickets were justified, whether they were necessary, relative to vehicles parked in the vicinity of Holy Cross College on Thanksgiving morning.

  • Request city manager provide a report to city council concerning the incident at 1 Kilby Street early in September when the Forestry Department was stopped by the Police Department from cutting down a dead tree. (order held)

  • Request city manager report to council what action the Police Department will take to stop widespread vandalism by way of paint balls shot from some type of air gun in the Newton Square area.

  • Request administration report why they would leave a dog that has bitten someone on its own property, giving the dog an opportunity to get loose and bite another person.

  • Request city manager make recommendation on feasibility and cost of placing a bicycle rack outside either City Hall or the Worcester Common Outlets for the convenience of downtown employees and visitors.

  • Request city administration find out why each time the compost pile is turned up at Hope Cemetery, the stench goes all over the neighborhood.

  • Request city manager explain why a local taxpayer was overlooked in the hiring of a sound system for the July 4 activities at Cristoforo Columbo Park.

  • Request city administration solve the rusty water problem at 10 Knowlton Ave.

  • Request city manager provide city council with definition of a local bank.

  • Request city manager report on how city is going to adhere to protocol relative to flying of the flag.

  • Requests Department of Public Works report on leaf-collection communication problems.
